1. Never trim a printout, mount it beautifully, and display it with its alternates on the finely polished surface of the conference-room table.
2. Gather copies of what your targets might be reading, including your competition, of course. Mock up an executive’s in-box or tabletop arrangement in some way, and place yours among them.
3.The screen is the wrong size, no matter how big it is. You can’t see it intimately as if it were in your hands.
4. An illusory likeness of the physical paper product that your potential buyer will ultimately be holding.
5. Print out all the alternates as hard copy, trim them accurately to magazine size and glue them onto old issues.

American Solider

Part A:
1. I think the most powerful image is number 78 the one of Ian's mom crying. I think this because I like wow she is showing emotion.

Part B:
Set #1 At home in Denver
#1 - #7

Set #2
#8 - #49

Set#3
#50-#70

Set #4
#71-#82

I think that set four is the most powerful because almost all of those picture show some sort of emotion and also because its nice to know that he is ok.

Part C:
I think the images go well together because of the way the captions describe each photo, with out the captions the photos wouldn't really tell a story.

C part a:
In the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the verbs are written in presents tense.

4.
Photo Number 78
Anita cries as she sees her son Jacob after  5 months of him being Iraq.

Photo Number 1
Jacob is thinking hard about whether or not to call  Sgt. Gavino Barron. He has been waiting a long time for this call.

Photo Number 6
Jacob hugs his best friends Brandon and Gerran as he prepares to go off to Denver Military Entrance Processing Station.

Environmental Portrait
In this photo I liked that there was a dog and that it showed love. I picked this photo because  I  love how the people are in the center and how the sunset is behind them, it makes the photo more balanced

In this photo I like that the subject is a dancer. I picked this photo because of the angle that the photo was taken at and also because I love that it is of a dancer.

1. Framing gives an image depth and draws the eye to a point of interest in the image.
2. Get closer
3. Frame an interesting composition

Africa

1. The pictures that I saw I really liked. They have a lot of character and emotion. I also loved that the pictures of the animals are taken from really cool angles.
2.
3. In this picture there is a Lion looking off in to the distance. This photo is my favorite because it make me think that he is looking over his pride and protecting them.
4.The rules in this picture are rules of third and simplicity.
5. Nick Brandt uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses.
6. His reason for taking these photos wereshowing the animals simply in the state of Being.
7. His hope for these photos are that they aren't a documentary but they show the animals in the state of being.
8."The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes."

Great Black and white Photographers part 3

1. When I first looked at Minor White's photos what caught my eye was that his photos have character. Here are two examples of pictures of his that I though had great character.

2. a.  I see a house in the hill country.
I hear the thunder rolling in the background.
I touch the wheat growing in the fields.
    I taste rain.
I smell  hay in the barn.

2. b   I see a flower.
    I hear a bee buzzing.
    I touch the silky peddles.
    I taste honey.
    I smell sweetness.

3. To show the world that I am a great photographer I would use a power point and a blog. I would like to create like a huge power point or something and just have every student post photos from the school day.

Academic Shoot reflection and critique

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you?
The challenges that I encountered during this shoot were trying to follow all the rules in the pictures like rule of thirds for example

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.

I found myself thinking of all the aspects but I guess I found myself mostly thinking about framing.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?
The things that I would do differently are that I would take the pictures from different angles and try to follow the rules better.

4. What things would you do the same?
Things that I would do the same are
focus on the student more and not the things around them.

5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve?
I think that simplicity will be the easiest.

6. Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture?
I think rule of thirds will be the hardest.

7. What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is?
I still don't quite understand rule of thirds. I can ask round and figure it out and try it and remember it.

1. What theme that we could take here at school could we do a series of these panels to place around the school?
I think our theme should be high school.
2. Should we use phones only, or should we open it up to our regular cameras for those people that don't have camera phones?
I think we should use regular cameras
3. Where would you want to put the mural on campus?

Academic shoot- The rules

Lines
1. I followed the rule by having lines incorporated into the photo.
2. The subject of this photo is the girls homework.
3.Yes to people looking at this photo it is clear what the subject is.

Simplicity
1. I think that I followed this rule pretty well because there is only one subject and not multiple.
2. The subject of this photo is the boy.
3.Yes I think again that if people looked at the photo that they would be able to tell what/who the subject of the photo is.
4. I could have probably gotten a little less of the stuff around him.

Balance
1. I  followed this rule pretty well also on this picture because there is a balance between two students.
2. the subject in this photo is the two students.
3. Yes the people can tell who the subject is.

Rule of thirds
1. I didn't really follow this rule well.
2. There isn't really a subject in this photo.
3. They could probably tell what the subject is.
4. I could do this rule better by knowing the rule.
Framing
1. I followed this rule really well.
2. the subject is the boy.
3.Yes people can tell who the subject is.

The photo that I picked is of a little girl giving a cheerleader a big hug and the cheerleader has the biggest smile.

1. I picked this photo because I thought it was adorable how the little girl gave the cheerleader a hug and how the cheerleader had the biggest smile on her face.
2. Emotion, simplicity, and fill the frame.

1. Core class classrooms, Band hall, Dance studio
2.Mr. Powell, Mrs. Shuttleworth, Mrs.Dawson, Mr. Logan, Mrs. Cayer, Mr.Pittman, Mrs. Vohl
3.Take the photos at different angles, take close up photos and far away photos and use the photo rules.

Academic preview shoot

The Story
I think this photo has the best story because it is just a picture of a bunch of students in their class having fun and just enjoying learning.

Action and emotion
This photo I picked for action and mainly emotion because the students are around the flag pole and praying for each other and the school and I think that that is really awesome and it just touched my heart.
Fill the frame
I find this picture most interesting because its a students coming to together to help a cause and thats so cool and you don't see that to often.

Photo Ethics

I think this photo is the most unethical because in the first one her teeth are her teeth and then in the latest picture (one on the left) is with her teeth photo edited. i think that photo editing someone just because they look different is wrong.

I think this photo is the least unethical because there nothing wrong with wanting to move mountains closer but changing a persons face yeah there is a huge difference. So that is why I chose this photo for least unethical.

1. Summarize the main points of the story.
Someone at the newspaper used Adobe Photoshop to cut out the ladies in the cabinet to make it look like it was an all men cabinet. During the same conflict, Issam Kobeisi made two images for Reuters and Hussein Malla submitted one to AP of a woman wailing in front of a bombed house. The strange thing about all three photographs was that it was the same woman, but at three different locations on three different dates, according to times stamps on the images. While both photographers were close enough to conveniently capture her emotion and the wreckage with wide-angle lenses, neither bothered to include the woman’s name in their captions.
2.I think this type of photo editing is bad because its basically saying we don't like you so we are join to just cut you out of the photo.

Avoiding Mergers

Balance

Framing

I chose this this photo for framing because it looks like the wall that got destroyed is framing a fireman on a climbing on a ladder. I think its interesting because it looks like the fireman is climbing towards the sky.

Lines

I chose this photo for lines because the lines that are on the building makes the subject of the photo(the man)look like he is climbing stairs yet in reality he is falling off the building.

The Rule of Thirds

Simplicity

I choose this photo for simplicity because there is only two people in the picture and there is nothing else to distract you like other colors or other people.

National Geographic

This photo is my favorite favorite because I find it so cool how the photographer got the photo right before his hind legs left the branch. If I could submit a photo in to this contest it would be of Chita Siberia and the different culture that they have compared to ours.

Touching people

1. I think this project is interesting and kind of weird.
2. I would say no and walk away.
4. The photos are nice and are unique, i would prefer to look at other types of photos.

3 Links

This was the first photo I choose because its is so sweet and just beautiful .    I like the  angle that the person took the photo from. I think this photo made top 40 photos ever because of the sweetness that goes with the picture. PHOTOGRAPHER: Vanderlei Almeida/Getty Images

This is many second favorite picture because it show emotion and  that life doesn't always give you lemons to make lemonade with. I like that the person didn't really get close up on the people but yet made the picture seem interesting.  I think this photo made top 40 photos ever because of it symbolism. PHOTOGRAPHER: Jeff Roberts/ AP

My third and last photo I choose also because it showed emotion and just happiness.  I like that the photographer took the photo from a sideways angle and not straight on. I think this photo made the top 40 photos ever because of the meaning of family that goes with the picture. PHOTOGRAPHER: Yomiuri Shimbun/ Reuters

The Camera

1. The Camera obscura effect was  a tiny hole in a wall in a completely dark room. Though the hole light is focused and the outside scene is projected on the opposite wall upside down. It was achieved because the hole acted like a lens, focusing and projecting light into the wall of the dark chamber.
2.  The invention that helped man get a step closer to creating the modern camera during the 17th century was  the process of making high quality glass lenses.
3.  The parts of the first modern camera that was invented by Niepce were A glass lens, a dark box, and film.
4. Modern digital cameras have this in common with Niepce 's camera, light passes through the lens into the camera and exposes the film.
5.To capture an image modern cameras use a electronic sensor called a CCD.
6. The difference between auto mode and the program mode is auto will completely control the flash and program you just point and shoot.
7. Portrait mode is used to attempt to blur out the background. It works by the camera will try to use the fastest available lens setting.
8. Sports mode is used to freeze motion. It works by the camera using the highest shutter speed possible.
9. a half press will tell the camera that you are almost ready to take a shot and be prepared.
10.this symbol means Disabled flash. You use this when you don't want to use flash.
11.this symbol means Auto- flash. you use this when the camera thinks it needs more light.
12. If there is to much light then your photo will be washed out.
13. If there isn't enough light then the photo will be to dark.
14. A "stop" is a relative measurement of light.
15. 1
16. 2
17.The affect that a longer shutter speed has is that it will give more light.
18. the affect that a shorter shutter speed has is that  it will have less light.
19. The aperture controls the opening of the lens.
20. by setting the "aperture opening" also know as an f-stop.
